LEAMOS 

Apocalipsis 2:8-10

“Y escribe al ángel de la iglesia en Esmirna: El primero y el postrero, el que estuvo muerto y vivió, dice esto: Yo conozco tus obras, y tu tribulación, y tu pobreza (pero tú eres rico), y la blasfemia de los que se dicen ser judíos, y no lo son, sino sinagoga de Satanás. No temas en nada lo que vas a padecer. He aquí, el diablo echará a algunos de vosotros en la cárcel, para que seáis probados, y tendréis tribulación por diez días. Sé fiel hasta la muerte, y yo te daré la corona de la vida”.

PENSEMOS

Las palabras del Señor en este pasaje nos animan a mantenernos firmes ante la persecución. Muchos creyentes han sido confinados en prisiones y condenados a muerte por su fe en Jesucristo, en algunos países la iglesia es secreta porque se prohíbe mencionar el nombre de Jesucristo, sin embargo muchos están dispuestos a morir por causa de Él, estos creyentes nos sirven de inspiración por su fe y valentía.

Hoy veremos las palabras a la iglesia en Esmirna, que representa a la siguiente etapa de la Iglesia de Jesucristo. Se la llama también «la iglesia mártir». Esta iglesia padeció el martirio, por su fe. La palabra «Esmirna» proviene de «mirra», que implica la idea de «sufrimiento».

El Señor Jesucristo les dijo: «Conozco. . .tu tribulación, y tu pobreza. . .», no tuvo ninguna palabra de condenación o reproche para los creyentes de esa Iglesia, débil económicamente, pero fuerte en espíritu y fe.

Todo lo que les dice son elogios y palabras de alabanza y complacencia. Ellos eran espiritualmente ricos a pesar de las persecuciones y su pobreza material; eran desprendidos de las posesiones materiales, dándole el primer lugar al Señor en sus vidas.

Las palabras de Jesús no son arrepiéntanse, sino “no tengan miedo”.

Jesús le recuerda a la iglesia su victoria sobre la muerte “Y escribe al ángel de la iglesia en Esmirna: El primero y el postrero, el que estuvo muerto y vivió, dice esto”, (Apocalipsis 2:8). Los creyentes que estaban siendo perseguidos necesitaban saber que Él estaba a cargo de todo, y que sus sufrimientos, la persecución y hasta la muerte, estaba en los planes y propósitos de Dios. El Señor tiene la declaración final sobre todas las cosas. Habla de la muerte y resurrección de Cristo, y su experiencia personal con la muerte lo identifica con todos aquellos que han sido mártires por causa del evangelio. Nos da un mensaje esperanzador porque el Señor Jesucristo triunfó sobre la muerte, y Él puede salvar a todos aquellos que están soportando persecución y martirio por su fe en Él.

Ojalá podamos ser tan valientes como ellos cuando nos atacan por ser consecuentes con la fe y el amor por Jesucristo. 

El Señor nos invita a ser fieles hasta la muerte, Él promete que nos dará la corona de la vida, Santiago 1:12 dice: “Bienaventurado el varón que soporta la tentación; porque cuando haya resistido la prueba, recibirá la corona de vida, que Dios ha prometido a los que le aman”.

¡Qué cosa más gloriosa les espera a todos aquellos que soportan penalidades y sufrimientos, pero perseveran en su fe en Jesucristo!

«Gracias Señor por alentarnos en este día a continuar colocando nuestra mirada en ti. Nos das la gracia y el poder por medio de tu Santo Espíritu para soportar sufrimientos por causa de nuestra fe. En estos tiempos difíciles llenas nuestros corazones de esperanza porque volverás pronto y nada que hayamos padecido será comparable con la gloria venidera que hemos de recibir. En el nombre de Jesús, Salvador nuestro. amén.»

LET'S READ

Revelation 2:8-10

“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These things says the First and the Last, who was dead and came to life: I know your works, your tribulation, and your poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not be afraid at all of what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

LET'S THINK

The words of the Lord in this passage encourage us to remain firm in the face of persecution.  Many believers have been confined in prisons and condemned to death for their faith in Jesus Christ. In some countries the church is secret because it is forbidden to mention the name of Jesus Christ. However, many are willing to die for His sake. These believers serve as an inspiration for their faith and courage.

Today we will see the words to the church in Smyrna, which represents the next stage of the Church of Jesus Christ. It is also called the “martyr church.” This church suffered martyrdom for its faith. The word “Smyrna” comes from “myrrh,” which implies the idea of ​​“suffering.”

The Lord Jesus Christ said to them: “I know . . . your tribulation, and your poverty . . .” He had no words of condemnation or reproach for the believers of that Church, economically weak, but strong in spirit and faith.

All that He says to them are praises and words of praise and satisfaction. They were spiritually rich despite the persecutions and their material poverty;  They were detached from material possessions, giving the Lord first place in their lives.

Jesus’ words are not repent, but “do not be afraid.”

Jesus reminds the church of His victory over death “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These things says the First and the Last, He who was dead and came to life” (Revelation 2:8). Believers who were being persecuted needed to know that He was in charge of everything, and that their sufferings, persecution, and even death were in God’s plans and purposes. The Lord has the final statement on all things. He speaks of Christ’s death and resurrection, and His personal experience with death identifies Him with all those who have been martyred for the sake of the gospel.  It gives us a hopeful message because the Lord Jesus Christ triumphed over death, and He can save all those who are enduring persecution and martyrdom for their faith in Him.

I hope we can be as brave as they are when they attack us for being consistent with our faith and love for Jesus Christ. 

The Lord invites us to be faithful until death, He promises that He will give us the crown of life, James 1:12 says: “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

What a glorious thing awaits all those who endure hardships and sufferings, but persevere in their faith in Jesus Christ!

“Thank you Lord for encouraging us today to continue to look to you. You give us the grace and power through your Holy Spirit to endure suffering for the sake of our faith.  In these difficult times, you fill our hearts with hope because you will return soon and nothing we have suffered will be comparable to the coming glory we are to receive. In the name of Jesus, our Savior. Amen.»
